Sustainability Through a Revolutionary Permaculture Design

What is Permaculture? Permaculture-based systems have taken the world by storm through its design. The name is derived from the word “permanent” and “agriculture” or “culture” and the goal is just that, permanent agriculture. The design acts to work with nature rather than defying it and by capturing natural energy that would have been lost. Permaculture explains how the relationship between plants, natural elements, like ponds, and livestock could work harmoniously and yield more resources.

Why Permaculture? Connecting Permaculture to community is not an impossible goal, it is the most important goal. The relationship between humans and nature has not always been peaceful and we have witness the consequences of that incompatibility. Changing our behavior and recognizing where we can improve will make a difference and ultimately reverse the process of the damages done to our environment. By being responsible we allow the landscape to heal and we will benefit from the land by producing great yields for years to come.

Our goal is to implement the design into each community project and allow each place to flourish into an independent and successful space. The benefit from this method is the ability to maintain constant resources for the community and eventually gaining capital from produce sales. The outcome for the community is economic stability that is non-reliant on year-over-year grant support.

By utilizing a permaculture system, we are able to combat two major global issues within one project. The first is to not contribute to the deterioration of our environment but to rebuild it and the second is use that practice to provide resources for women and children facing an undignified situation. It is a design with tremendous benefits.
